James Kimmel, Jr. will discuss evidence-based, Medicaid-funded peer support for individuals suffering from serious mental illness and/or co-occurring addiction who also have involvement with the criminal justice system. James Kimmel, Jr., Michael Rowe, Ph.D. of the Yale University School of Medicine, and Lori Schultz of Peerstar LLC will present a workshop on "Forensic Peer Support as a Re-Entry Program: Evidence, Successes and Challenges". Since 2010, Peerstar LLC has provided forensic peer support as a jail/community re-entry program in 6 Pennsylvania counties. Yale University researchers are evaluating this innovative program. A discussion of recidivism rates; successes and challenges;and training, supervision and program coordination will be included in this presentation.
